Accept Your New Normal

Coming to terms with a critical diagnosis and adapting to new limitations can be incredibly challenging. It’s natural to ask, “Why me?” again and again. But dwelling on that question rarely brings relief. The sooner we accept our condition, the sooner we can begin to move forward. Sometimes, things happen without explanation — and we may never get the answers we seek.
Think about the positive experiences in your life. Did you ever pause to ask, “Why me?” when something wonderful happened? If not, is it fair to ask it only when life takes a difficult turn? Life isn’t always fair — and the quicker we accept this truth, the easier it becomes to live with grace and strength.
Understand Your Disease and Its Impact
I’d love to say “Don’t Google it,” but I know that’s nearly impossible. The key is to seek reliable information — so your diagnosis doesn’t feel like a mystery. Talk to your healthcare providers. Learn how the condition may affect your body, mind, and relationships. Understanding replaces fear with a sense of control.
You are not alone. Many others are walking a similar path, and connection is a powerful medicine.
It’s natural to feel grief, frustration, or denial about how life has changed. Instead of resisting these feelings, accept them as part of your healing process. Journaling or opening up to loved ones can help you release what you’re holding inside. Sometimes, what feels like a curse at first can slowly unfold into a blessing in disguise — changing how we see life, purpose, and our own strength.
I’m Sharing My Journey
I’ve created my YouTube channel, @ExploringMS, to share my personal journey with Multiple Sclerosis. My mission is to empower others facing similar challenges by building a space for resilience, growth, and unexpected blessings. Through heartfelt videos, I aim to inspire hope, offer practical tips, and foster a supportive, healing community.
I’ve come to embrace my New Normal — and I truly believe you can too.
Set New Goals and Celebrate Small Wins
Even the smallest wins matter — managing a symptom, completing a task, showing up for yourself. For me, each chemo session completed is a huge personal victory. I celebrate everyday moments too — attending a guitar class or taking a short solo trip are big wins in my book.
One thing MS has taught me is to live in the present. All I truly have is NOW. I don’t leave anything for tomorrow. Today, I can walk. Today, I can speak. Tomorrow is uncertain — so I don’t procrastinate on life anymore.
You always have a choice: You can dwell in sorrow and self-pity, or you can rise and redefine your life.
The choice is yours.
Make the RIGHT choice.
